A homemade bomb was detonated on Parsons Green station in a tube train, injuring 29 people. Some were impacted by sharpnel, others were injured by the crowd trying to escape the train. The bomb did not fully explode, instead causing a fire on the train. Police were called at around 8:20 to the scene. UK Prime Minister Theresa May stated that the terror threat level had been raised to "critical", and also warned that another attack "may be imminent". President Trump suggested that this may have been directed to Scotland Yard. He also preceeded with calling the terrorist a "loser", and deeming the attacks a "terrible thing". While there were injuries, no one was in critical condition. It is believed that the majority of the injuries were flashburns. Officials are asking people to steer clear of the area, and investigations are on the way to catch the individual responsible. Author's Diction The authors' do not have a particular choice of words that give away any emotional thoughts they might have on the attack, meaning that they nay not have a strong emotional attachment, even though they are still concerned. However, many of the contributors to this article do seem to have a very annoyed tone towards Pres. Trump's tweets, and they also seem to back Prime Minister Theresa May in her decisions and comments. Rhetorical Devices Used by the Author The authors' seem to appeal to all 3 of the rhetorical devices. They have images of maps that show where the investigation has led and where arrests and seraches have taken place. They also have screenshots of the tweets made by U.S officials, videos of conferences, and images of police reports that were released to the public. In order to appeal to pathos, they reach out to those affected and their families to show support. Lastly, their appeal to ethos is the use of several different credible sources, as well as numerous contributors and live updates of the ongoing investigation. Author's Tone The authors of this article have a didactic and judgmental tone. They explain the situation to the reader in a well-informed manner, with plenty of data to back up their claims. The are also judgmental, and seem to display their opinion towards the actions taken by government officials in both the U.S and the U.K. Author's Purpose The purpose of this article is to inform the reader about the ongoing terror attacks in London, and what precautions are being taken by both the government and the public. They are also keeping up with the attacks and updating to let the reader know about any arrests, searches, or protests in connection with the attacks. Comments made by government officials are provided, as well as any social media posts and/or press conferences they may have given. This is an article that keeps the public updated on all the events happening in connection with the terror attacks on the Parsons Green train in London.
